  • Beth Farrell, Marketing Assistant at Blackwell’s

    Beth runs the Blackwell’s Oxford Twitter and in the last two years she has grown the following by over 8k followers. She also pioneered and created the Blackwell’s podcast which is still growing, and discussed this during her SYP panel on bookselling – all whilst running the children’s department and then the business department at Broad Street. She will continue to share her passion for bookselling through her recent appointment as the marketing assistant for Blackwell’s head office. Her passion for diversity within the publishing world is what drives her to work hard and influence the industry from within.

     

  • Eleanor Pilcher, Marketing Manager at Avon, HC

    Eleanor has been in publishing for three years and worked her way up to Marketing Manager of Avon. She has volunteered with the Society of Young Publishers, offering a workshop on how to create a side hustle from your career in publishing. At HarperCollins she has helped develop relationships with other imprints through swapping of material, brainstorming sessions and joint campaigns to make the company more like a sisterhood of imprints rather than a selection of competitors. The aim of all of her intentions is simple: to make publishing an industry that is inclusive, welcoming and most of all enterprising.


  • Gauthier Van Malderen, Founder and CEO of Perlego

    Gauthier started Perlego three years ago to find a solution for the textbook industry. Prices have increased with +800% in the last 50 years, piracy is growing rapidly, and publishers find it harder than ever to make profit. With Perlego, “the Spotify for textbooks”, Gauthier is helping both students, curious professionals, and publishers. In only three years, Perlego already gives access to +250,000 books on a beautiful platform that makes learning easier, and has an incredibly driven team working towards its mission.

  • Harriet Egleton, Literary Scout at Daniela Schlingmann Literary Scouting

    Harriet Egleton has risen through the ranks since joining Daniela Schlingmann Literary Scouting Ltd. in 2015, becoming Senior Literary Scout in 2019. Harriet has been essential in bringing the best books in the UK market to international clients’ attention and helped secure major translation deals for them, spotting the potential of bestsellers including One Day In December by Josie Silver and Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton. She has an exceptional eye, has built great rapport with both international clients and UK agents and editors and quickly established herself as a trusted, passionate and professional literary scout.

  • Magdalene Abraha, Publisher at Jacaranda

    Magdalene is a publisher and writer and creator of the ‘groundbreaking’ book series A Quick Ting On. Magdalene has single-handedly created the first non-fiction book of its kind and it has stopped the industry in its tracks. Viv Groskop described Magdalene as ‘a young girl who is shaking up the publishing industry’ and The Voice called her ‘the woman that everyone in the literary world is talking about’, her book series A Quick Ting On has become a place for young black writers to learn and develop writing skills with Magdalene successfully demystifying writing. Magdalene not only is the lead editor in the #Twentyin2020 initiative but is now spearheading one of the most exciting movements in the publishing industry, A Quick Ting On.
