As text, audio and video converge in new media, publishers face complex challenges to traditional rights models for their intellectual property.

The conflict between publishers and Audible over speech-to-text is only the most recent in a series of cases that have pushed publishers to rethink their contracts, rights and royalties. This panel will explore best practices in emerging areas -- including licensing single images, chapters and other permissions, and selling podcast rights alongside traditional audiobook rights – as well as strategies for quickly identifying new rights opportunities and markets not currently exploited. The participants will also discuss how to avoid violating the rights of other parties and to ensure that appropriate royalties are paid to all rights holders.
