Freedom of Movement & Artistic Expression: Writers Abroad

Freedom of Movement & Artistic Expression: Writers Abroad

14 Mar 2019, 10:00 - 11:00

Literary Translation Centre
Language:
English

What impact does the UK visa system have on artistic expression? In 2018, a dozen authors who were planning to attend the Edinburgh International Book Festival had their visas refused. The UK is creating an increasingly hostile environment for writers planning to visit the UK. With Brexit on the horizon, we discuss the current state of affairs of freedom of expression and movement for writers. Daniel Hahn will be in conversation with Nick Barley, director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival, Antonia Byatt, director of English PEN, and Marta Dsziurosz, translator from and into Polish.

The Literary Translation seminar programme is produced with the help of funding from Arts Council England and Amazon Crossing Sponsorship
