Director of Academic at Virtusales Publishing Solutions, Mark Collins, will present his insights from working with some of the world’s largest publishers, and what they are doing to meet the changing needs of academic publishing. The session will focus on how publishers are managing an increasing and diversifying publishing output, exploring new payment models and turning towards content-driven strategies.

The presentation will review how the shift away from linear, traditional publishing workflows is creating fresh challenges in managing the volume of metadata required for multiple channels. Using real-life use cases, Mark will consider the approaches that publishers are taking to improve the quality of their metadata, increase online discoverability and maximise sales. Finally, he will also look at the key role publishing systems have to play in supporting publishers' challenges today and in the future.

Mark Collins has implemented numerous Biblio publishing software systems during his time at Virtusales, working closely with some of the world's leading academic, scholarly, professional and trade publishers including Harvard University Press, Bloomsbury Publishing, Manchester University Press and Macmillan. Prior to joining Virtusales, Mark spent many years in academic publishing, working at Wiley to implement a range of content platforms, including a global digital asset management system and has first hand experience of the challenges the industry faces.
