Publishing can often seem at first glance like a very competitive, very difficult industry to get into – but we’re here to dispel that myth and show you that it can be done! Joining the publishing world can involve a significant investment of time and sometimes money, but there are a variety of ways in which you can get a foot on the ladder. It’s important that you choose the right one for you. Aimed at those wishing to get their first job in publishing or to quickly climb the career ladder, the Society of Young Publishers has put together a panel of industry experts who are here to answer all your questions and give you practical advice on breaking through the barriers and finding your perfect career path. How to Get into Publishing is designed to demystify some publishing recruitment processes as well as give an insight into what employers are looking for in entry-level candidates. We will look at the various options available to aspiring publishers such as internships, work experience, paid and voluntary work to see which is right for you, and offer advice on starting roles and what kind of publishing career these can lead to.
