Laksmi Pamuntjak


Laksmi Pamuntjak is an award-winning, bilingual Indonesian novelist, poet, journalist and food critic. She has written for numerous Indonesian and international publications including Tempo, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, and the Guardian.

Pamuntjak’s debut novel, Amba/The Question of Red, a love story set against the backdrop of the Indonesian anti-Communist mass killings of 1965-66, won the German LiBeraturpreis in 2016. In 2012, she was selected as the Indonesian representative at the Poetry Parnassus/Cultural Olympics, the largest poetry festival in the UK, held in conjunction with the London Olympics. The movie adaptation of her second novel, Aruna dan Lidahnya (The Birdwoman’s Palate) premiered in Indonesian cinemas in September 2018 and will be screened at the Berlin International Film Festival 2019.

Pamuntjak’s third novel, Srikandi/The Fall Baby, was first published in German under the title Herbstkind by Ullstein Verlag in September 2018.  The original English version has been acquired by Penguin Random House’s brand new imprint in Asia for publication in 2019.
