Sectors at the fair

The halls of the fair are arranged by sector, much like a giant bookshop waiting to excite and inspire. All publishing sectors of the industry are covered at LBF, from mainstream publishers to specialised houses. Below you will find descriptions of our sectors to help you find which area of the fair is the right fit for you.

Children’s & Young Adult

Always one of the most colourful areas of the show, our Children's & YA section traditionally welcomes the leading names in the field to exhibit. These companies enjoy buzzing aisles full of visitors and benefit from the opportunity to increase brand awareness, generate new business leads, both domestically and globally, and increase their networks.

Authors & Self-Publishing

Authors feel at home at the fair, and so they should. Author HQ, which comprises of a theatre and networking area, is one of the most popular features of The London Book Fair, attracting a great deal of interest from the self-publishing community.

Author HQ demonstrates LBF’s role in acknowledging the changes in the industry by providing a forum for discussion of the ever-expanding number of approaches to publishing, including many exciting initiatives such as agent meetings and panel style "pitch slam" events.

Our Author of the Day programme, meanwhile, helps bring writers face-to-face with reputable and bestselling authors who will share their journey to publication during a special series of talks at the fair. Authors can find inspiration and network with their peers at our half-day conference, The Writer's Summit.

Academic & Scholarly Publishing

Technology’s role in scholarly publishing is becoming ever more important, and at the forefront of the digital revolution are the trailblazers of technological innovation - the academic/STM/professional publishers. An increasing number of these publishers choose to exhibit at The London Book Fair or attend as visitors.

Technology and Publishing Solutions

All the new ways in which content can be treated are found in the Tech area at LBF, located in the National Gallery of Olympia. Whether it be an app, game, mobile development or enhanced eBook – or a development not yet launched – the Tech area is its home. To keep the creativity flowing, there is a dedicated Buzz Bar in the heart of the Tech area for those all-important networking meetings.

Rights Buying & Selling

The International Rights Centre (IRC) at LBF is the hub for international rights business during a key buying time for the industry. The IRC is where those titles, projects, films, ideas and characters that we might later see in our bookshops, in an app, on a game, or in the cinema often begin their journey into the public realm.

The IRC gives agents, scouts and publishers the perfect opportunity to meet face-to-face with new and existing contacts.

Typically located on the second floor of Olympia, this location provides a more private and comfortable meeting space with custom-built lockers, tables and chairs, exclusive catering services and an appointment-only entrance system.

Our Introduction to Rights conference is a half-day workshop that takes place one day before the fair; it is designed for those new to the business and has proved to be an invaluable and incredibly insightful session. The programme offers the skills and knowledge needed to make the most of every rights opportunity, vital in this ever-changing publishing and content creation environment.

Bookselling and Remainders

LBF celebrates and champions bookselling in all its guises, from high street browsing to online clicking. Each year, we welcome the Booksellers Association (BA) as one of our main sponsors and supporters, and we're proud to provide a full programme of events and networking opportunities for booksellers at the fair.

BA Members attend the fair for FREE and receive a number of key benefits, making the fair a more accessible, cost-effective and highly relevant event for booksellers. Simply click here to find out more about becoming a BA member and taking advantage of this offer.

Creative Industries

The London Book Fair reaches beyond the book world – each year, we foster connections between publishing and other aligned creative industries, including TV & Film, Brand Licensing, Games and Advertising. From matchmaking to speed networking, LBF provides a forum for publishers and the creative industries to exchange ideas, establish new contacts, and explore the myriad of ways IP can be exploited and enhanced.

The Illustrators’ Gallery

The Illustrators' Gallery enables illustrators and artists to showcase their work to the international publishing community.

The collective gallery area gives illustrators and publishers a space to meet and network for new and exciting projects to be commissioned.

Writers' Block

Aspiring authors and established authorpreneurs make themselves at home here, as it’s a great place to increase brand awareness and generate new business leads.

First launched in 2016, Writers' Block has gone from strength to strength to become the destination for Author Services at The London Book Fair.

Writers' Block is in the perfect location to take advantage of the traffic created by the seminars that take place in Author HQ across the three days of the fair.

New Title Showcase

New Title Showcase is the place to introduce new titles to a captive audience at the fair. It provides authors and publishers with a venue on the show floor, a place where their titles, with available rights, can be found by publishers, agents, distributors and the entire LBF attendee database.

With this, your benefits include the exposure of your title to all LBF attendees, and all displays alphabetised by company name to make it easy for people to find your book. What’s more, you will be featured in the New Title Showcase catalogue with your contact information and have an online listing of your new title in a searchable database - this includes the 'Look Inside the Book' feature, where you can showcase a limited number of pages from your book online.

The Groucho Club

We launched The Groucho Club to provide exceptional comfort and service to our VIP’s. Founded by publishers and other art world leaders, The Groucho Club’s ethos of style, comfort, service and fun is a fabulous addition to LBF.
