The Write Stuff

  • The Write Stuff

Taking place in Author HQ, this Dragon’s Den-style panel event sees six authors pitch their books to a panel of literary agents in front of the Author HQ audience for the chance to win a follow up meeting with an agent.

At LBF 2019, the panel of judges included representatives from Eve White, Felicity Bryan Associates, LBA and The BKS Agency.

Each year, we see this event growing increasingly popular, as the success stories from previous attendees mount!

    How does it work?

Authors have three minutes each to pitch – to introduce themselves and present their work. The judging panel will then provide on-the-spot feedback to each pitch, as well as the authors’ writing, having received in advance of the competition sample chapters of each finalist’s work.

    How to enter

Entries for 2020 are now open. Authors are invited to send in their submissions to LBFAuthorHQ@midaspr.co.uk. The deadline for entries are 17:00 GMT on Friday 31st January

  • 2019 Winner – Lulu Allison

After much deliberation, the judges awarded the 2019 Write Stuff prize to Lulu Allison, who pitched her novelSalt Lick. Lulu said of her experience "I really enjoyed taking part in The Write Stuff event at London Book Fair. It was incredibly useful, even though soon after winning I decided to re-write the book I had entered! I learnt so much – about the industry, about talking to agents, and crucially, about understanding my own work. Honing a presentation helped me to realise what was critical in the book and it gave me a tool I have used regularly since. Meeting the agents was brilliant, even though it didn’t result in representation. They were helpful, thoughtful, supportive, and some of them remain so. A really valuable and enjoyable experience.”
