Reaching Agents

The International Rights Centre is the hub of the fair where a wide range of international Literary Agents are based throughout.

Please be aware that the majority of these agents will already have a full schedule of meetings. Although there are exceptions, the IRC is generally not the enviroment to approach agents to represent you and your book. The IRC is predominantly used by agents to sell rights to books for authors they already represent.

If you are looking for an agent to represent you we advise you follow these steps before the fair:

  • Find out which agencies to approach - some specialise in certain areas such as romance, crime etc
  • Before sending your manuscript find out how best to submit your work to each agency (e.g. a synopsis, a chapter etc) as different agencies may have different processes
  • Contact the agencies to pre-arrange an appointment at The London Book Fair

Useful Tools

Recommended publications include ‘The Writers Handbook’ which can help to identifiy suitable agencies and Carole Blake’s ‘From Pitch to Publication’ which further explains the processes of Literary Agents.

The online exhibitor directory and the official printed LBF directory will give you contact details to get in touch with appropriate agents before or after the Fair.
