| Synopsis of book |
Thirty! Who’d have believed it? There was a time when I didn’t think he’d make double figures – or that if he did, I wouldn’t still be around to witness it. He was just like the character ‘Billy Whizz’ in the old ‘Beano’ comics – as fast as I cleared up one scene of devastation, he was creating the next!
But time has marched on and we’ve both survived – me to tell the tale and Pete to live it, in his own, inimitable fashion.
My first book, ‘For Pete’s Sake’ related the story of the life of our son Peter from his birth and diagnosis of Down’s syndrome to the point at which he moved into sheltered accommodation and was diagnosed with Sensory Integrative Dysfunction.
Once Pete moved into his flat, nearly eight years ago, I thought that things would quieten down, which to some extent they have, but life is never dull, even with Pete one-step removed. As ever, he presents us with challenges. In fact, life with Pete could be likened to doing a very complicated jigsaw whilst wearing a blindfold. He didn’t come with an instruction booklet, so we continue to grope our way along, trying our best to guide and support him.
So from new girlfriends to new jobs, this is the story of Pete negotiating the way through his twenties – and managing to scrape out at the other end. Perhaps, as my daughter suggested, I should have called the book ‘Peter Crabtree: The Cappuccino Years’!

After a failed attempt on his live, He discovers they are plotting to assassinate Queen Elizabeth and restore England to Catholicism. Working as a double agent with dangerous men such as Jed Sutton puts Jacob's family in danger. When Jacob exposes the plot to Walsingham, Mary Stuart is sentenced to death. Knowing Jacob is a spy, Jed Sutton kidnaps Jacob's wife Maria and son Rico, threatening to kill them unless Jacob helps him to release Mary Stuart from Fotheringay Castle. A seemingly impossible task and a dangerous gamble leads to a desperate struggle, as the affair reaches it's exciting climax.

| Author biography |
Under the pseudonym of Roz Colyer, I have written a trology of novels with the umbrella title Closed Circuits, Cluttered Minds, comprising Riding the Wheel, Wheels and Circles and Full Circle. I have also had short stories published in My Weekly, Bella and Robinson Books, and have won, or come second, in a couple of writing competitions. Over the last 10 years I have run fiction writing courses at Polstead and Leiston Abbey in Suffolk and on the Greek island of Agistri. At the moment I'm planning a writing week in Felixstowe in November (watch this space).
From 2001 to 2004 a friend and I ran day courses in the Gibberd Garden in Harlow, Essex, for fiction and poetry. I also run a 'creative editing' service via post and email for writers needing more in-depth, one-to-one advice and comment, and a mentoring service for those even more committed to seeing their work published.
I've had so many other things to do recently that I haven't given any thought to another novel. Again, watch this space...Maureen Blundell |

| Author biography |
Born in 1955, I grew up in Baildon, West Yorkshire, where I attended the Salt Grammar School.
In 1975, I married Andy and moved to Ndola, Zambia for two years, then in 1978, after a brief spell back in the UK, we moved to Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, where our first child, Peter, was born the following year. Pete was diagnosed with Down’s syndrome and we returned to West Yorkshire in 1981.Our daughter, Hannah, was born in 1984.
I trained as a florist at Shipley College but had to give up my job after Pete left full-time education.
Reading and writing have always been pastimes I enjoyed and I now have more time to devote to both.
Andy and I moved to North Yorkshire in 1995; our son lives in sheltered accommodation in Bradford and our daughter lives in London. |
