Hubert Nyssen and his wife, Christine Le Bœuf, joined by Françoise Nyssen, Bertrand Py, Jean-Paul Capitani founded Actes Sud in 1978 in the south of France and developed the company into a general publishing house.
Far from Paris, the company also distinguished itself by its graphic identity and by its editorial choice to publish authors coming from the whole world.
Actes Sud moved to Arles in 1983 and has kept growing, remaining independent and with the will to discover and share. Its catalogue (more than 6000 titles) is mainly devoted to literature (translated from 60 different languages and 450 French titles) and welcomes authors from all artistic disciplines.
