Wales and the New Magic Realism in Children’s Publishing

Wales and the New Magic Realism in Children’s Publishing

11 Apr 2018, 16:00 - 17:00

Children's Hub

From Arthur Machen’s The Great God Pan to the release of Philip Pullman’s the The Book of Dust, there is a long tradition of dealing with the supernatural, the fantastical and the magical in the work of writers from Wales. There is currently a real resurgence in this field across genres, but particularly in writing for Young Adults, most notably in English-language publishing in Wales. In the Welsh language, a new Survey of Books for Children and Young People (conducted by Siwan Rosser) has just been published by the Welsh Books Council, examining current trends and identifying gaps in the market.

Discover children’s literature in Wales in a new light through the works of writers Eloise Williams, Catherine Fisher and the innovative Children’s & YA publisher Firefly Press, and learn more about the importance of growing indigenous voices in children’s publishing in discussion with Siwan Rosser and writer Bethan Gwanas.
