Ayobami Adebayo was born in 1988 in Lagos, Nigeria. Her stories have appeared in a number of magazines and anthologies, and one was highly commended in the 2009 Commonwealth short story competition. She holds BA and MA degrees in Literature in English from Obafemi Awolowo University. Ayobami also has an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia where she received an International Bursary for Creative Writing. She was a 2012 OMI fellow at Ledig House, New York and a 2015 Hedgebrook writer in residence. She was named a Financial Times Bright Star in 2015 and has studied under Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Margaret Atwood. She currently works as a fiction editor for Saraba Magazine.   

Claire Armitstead is associate editor, Culture, for Guardian News and Media. She was books editor from 2010-2016, leading the Guardian and Observer's move to digital first. She was literary editor of the Guardian from 1999-2010, and arts editor from 1995-1999. She presents the Guardian books podcast and is a regular speaker on literature on radio and at public events.
