This session explores the notion of residencies, for writers and translators. Who are they for, what are the benefits, what are the different ways in which they work and what can we learn from the different models? In 2010, Rachida Lamrabet spent a month as writer in residence at the Free Word Centre in London, while Neel Mukherjee spent a month at the Passa Porta literature house in Brussels. Neel and Rachida will be in conversation about their experiences.
The Banff International Literary Translation Centre’s residency programme is legendary in translation circles. We are delighted to welcome Katherine Silver to give us the inside story on the success of the programme and what we can learn from it.
The session will be chaired by Sigrid Bousset, director of Passa Porta in Brussels and board member of the HALMA network of European literature houses.
