When the jurors of Europe's most prestigious prize for comics announced their 30-strong longlist in January this year, there was one glaring omission: not a single woman had been nominated. News of the Grand Prix d’Angoulême, a lifetime achievement award presented annually at France’s largest comics festival, hit headlines around the world – but for all the wrong reasons.
