A leading independent British bookseller intends capitalising on the e-reading market with the launch of a new ebook store that offers free apps for Android-powered devices.
Owners of iOS phones and tablets will also be able to download books directly from Foyle’s website, which aims to take advantage of British e-readers, with the UK ranked as the top e-reading market in Europe.
Consumers are encouraged to choose from a 200,000 strong portfolio of titles, including the highly-successful novel from Kathryn Stockett, The Help.
The move is the first step in a wider digital strategy proposed by Foyles in conjunction with German e-reading solutions provider, txtr.
Foyles’ chief executive Sam Husain said: “Our new ebook store and apps, Foyles powered by txtr, make buying and reading ebooks as easy as possible, without the added expense of having to buy new hardware.”
English speaking markets in New Zealand, Canada and Australia are also set to be targeted by Foyles powered by txtr in the near future.
More than one in ten adults in the UK uses an e-reader, according to txtr.
