The biography of the late Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson topped the list of the most popular e-books gifted in Christmas 2011, it was revealed yesterday (January 5th).
In second place was The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins, of which the first movie instalment is due out across UK cinemas from March 23rd, according to Kobo.
Stephen King’s thriller of a man trying to avert the assassination of John F Kennedy, 11/22/63, came in at third position, while George RR Martin’s A Game of Thrones was fourth.
As Kobo unveiled these holiday favourites, it also revealed gifting of e-books increased 200 per cent from November to December, while general e-gifting climbed 500 per cent.
Chief executive officer Michael Serbinis said: “This holiday season broke every foreseeable record for Kobo, and we have exceeded our expectations driving several e-book downloads per second through the holidays.”
According to a recent YouGov poll, 1.3 million e-readers were gifted by British consumers this festive season, with Amazon’s Kindle taking 92 per cent of the market share.
